Ways that Fonts Can Enhance an Image

Ways that Fonts Can Enhance an Image
In the world of graphic design, fonts can set the tempo of what the image for a business pertains to. A font can immediately tell the viewer of professionalism, business practices, and how the business conducts itself. Choosing a typeface means more than just adding a few lines of text for an image or banner. You want the font to declare what your business is to anyone who looks at it. There are several ways in how a font could enhance the imagery for a business logo, graphic, or banner.

1. Correlation

Ways that Fonts Can Enhance an Image

Many of us will signify a snow-capped font as one pertaining to something cold. We know that snow is cold and can relate any text that is written as such. The transaction between the font and the mind is instantaneous and we realize that the product the font refers to is cold. It wouldn't make much sense to use a snow-capped font to help sell swimming pools or Caribbean wear. You could use it to help sell parkas and snow shovels, however.

2. Emotional Response

Ways that Fonts Can Enhance an Image

Some fonts can cause an emotional response from those who look at it. While one font may make something seem appropriate and match the context, others may make the image feel menacing or urgent. Something as innocent as "Ice Cream Sandwiches" could take an ominous feel if the font looked like it was written in blood. It may be great for a Halloween motif, but in a general sense it may be too much.

3. Class and Taste

Ways that Fonts Can Enhance an Image

If you are trying to target a specific class of people, using fonts that signify upscale design would be more ideal. A cursive or hand-writing type font could provide a sense of style and class to your product. Some may go so far as to saying that the product could be "fancy".

4. Regional Typeface

Ways that Fonts Can Enhance an Image

Every area in the world has a specific typeface that tells a story of its origins. In the United States, Times New Roman is the common font the states who the people are.

Eastern-styled font

An Eastern-styled font as in the graphic above makes those looking at it feel like the ice cream may be exotic as it came from the Eastern parts of the world. Even though it may not be true, the font style used is what gives us that impression.

Your text could mean something far different to the viewer than what your intentions could have been. Different styles of fonts can invoke different emotions and reasoning in the one reading it. Choose your fonts carefully to make the greatest impact your text could provide for your image. If you'd like to find the perfect font for your project, click here to visit 1001fonts.com.

5 Big Reasons Why You Should Quit Graphic Design

5 Big Reasons Why You Should Quit Graphic Design
As a profession, graphic design also has its own risks that must be faced by those engaged in it. "Ah... the risks?! Wait! Yesta, are you saying the career I got 'stuck' with isn't good enough? Didn't you ever say it's fun to be a graphic designer? Wasn`t it supposed to be full of creativity and erhm… considered cool?"

Well, it may seem like it, but the fact is there are some important points related risks should be known by the graphic designers. The work we do as graphic designers isn't always thrilling. I'm sorry to say, but here are some of the main reasons why being a designer can be quite sucks.

Probably Five of the Best Reasons for Quitting Design World

1. Adaptation with everything

Why You Should Quit Graphic Design

Graphic designers need to be able to adapt to each project received. This is the reason why a 'free style artist' can't be a graphic designer, he is supposed to be a pure artist. Why? because he tends fanatic by his visual style, so he will have great difficulty when he is confronted with several corporate projects with the demands of an elegant and clean in design. Graphic designer is just like a chameleon, which should be able to adapt well in any project. Therefore, extensive knowledge in various fields will be needed. This makes the graphic design into a tough profession, well at least in my opinion.

2.Technical Skills, Aesthetics, Ethics, Methods and... Even much more! Geez!

Why You Should Quit Graphic Design

Are you convinced that only by mastering the graphics software such as Photoshop then you become a good graphic designer? Of course.. No. Don't expect to just learn to graphic software and all of sudden your some graphic designer. Graphic designers are also required to have a high aesthetic value and the ability to apply them visually, and of course the graphic designer should master the basic principles of design and basic use of graphic elements therein. For now, we leave aside the typography, color, and some ... whoops I mean a lot of other elements. But geez ... turned out to be a graphic designer must also be good at communicating, and have at least a minimum level of basic marketing skills. And remember, hand drawing skills are a great asset! Oh god, there's so much to be learned..but hey, this is not about mere technical skills, remember?

3. Life Seems Hard to Bear

Why You Should Quit Graphic Design

Life's hard. It's even harder when you being a graphic designer. See why you get seriously MAD when when you're walking around on Saturday afternoon and found some advertising media showed irritating visuals. When you look at an DVD you'll craze simply because the font used on the cover looks tacky and outdated, again you complained and grumbled. And just think, would you run away from these things!? That is why a graphic designer as suddenly able to see ghosts, visual garbage everywhere!

4. No Time for Rest, Soldier!

Why You Should Quit Graphic Design

When people with other professions relax and rejoice as holidays, the graphic designer is busy with their creative thinking. This is absolutely not a necessity, graphic designers are not required to think when they're not at work. But when you dive further into this field, you will get that creative thinking and find new ideas is a necessity, and it is inevitable. As an opiate, the brain will always be forced to continue to reap the harvest, to work hard, and it always requires innovative information to be consumed. Yet again, no time for rest, soldier!

5. Graphic What? Who cares?

Why You Should Quit Graphic Design

The people out there are not that interested in graphic design. It's not a popular profession. Can you imagine, when so much needs to be learned by the graphic designer but no one else cares. It can be seen from the people appreciation of which tend to be low in the graphic design profession. They see graphic design as a sideline profession of students with some fun graphic softwares installed on their computers.

So how about you?

Do you agree with me? Do you still want to be a Graphic Designer? or are you thinking of quitting design world? Share your thoughts and comments!

Design Ethics

Ethics

The word 'ethics' comes from the Greek word ethos, which means "character" (customs, indigenous, practice), regarding actions within the framework of good and evil, right and wrong. Often associated that goodness is seen as the key ethical. The truth (the truth) to one aspect of that fullness. Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct.

Design

Design is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of human problem-solving efforts to produce work in meeting the needs, the needs and desires of the community group. Design is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system (as in architectural blueprints, engineering drawing, business process, circuit diagrams and sewing patterns).

The Design Ethic

The design ethic which will be discussed here is limited to Visual Communication Design or Graphic Design, a creative approach and consideration of the essential and ideal in achieving the integral design optimization, the concept can be analyzed in several aspects as follows:

What Makes a Great Graphic Designer?

What Makes a Great Graphic Designer?
As graphic designers, we should be thankful to internet presence. Every day we have been treated with many outstanding and amazing works over the internet. They can be illustration, branding, advertising, digital imaging, cartoons, etc..

What Makes a Great Graphic Designer?

The world is filled with talented and genius people. Sometimes, I ask myself, "What Makes a Great Graphic Designer?". I was finally trying to unravel some of the points that can make a great graphic designer, and (once again) this is just a personal view. Yeah, this is 5 points a very important role in determining the quality of a graphic designer (my version):

What Makes a Great Graphic Designer?

1. Creativity

Great Graphic Designer

This is the most important! Since graphic design is dynamic, moving and keep up with changes. The taste of every designer is also moving, visual perception and power may change, and graphic designers ready or not required to be able to keep up and follow its movement. And it might not have occurred if the ideas and thoughts are not developed in such a way as to be some thing that really out of the box. The output is widely known as the creativity and the culprit is known as creative beings.

But the problem is that creativity is not a talent, but something that needs to be explored with great effort and relentless. Creativity requires sacrifice and willpower. Creativity is a choice. It will return to their thinking, whether to choose to be or not. If you want it, then give it the extra effort.

2. Theoretical and Application Understanding

Great Graphic Designer

To be a great graphic designer, then someone needs to master basic scientific, history, theories, standards and philosophy. But do not worry, because all the material you learn will not be completed within two or three months (unless you're a genius like Einstein), but for many years with a 'learn and practice' methods. So if you are an author of the book "Proficient into graphic design with Adobe Illustrator in a month", then you should pull the book off the circulation, because it is a lie!

In addition to the need for a theoretical understanding of the field, a graphic designer must also be able to apply their knowledge into real work. That is, once mastered basic science, the idea is good, and the concept has matured, it is time to visualize it in the form of work. Visualization aspects may vary. Maybe with a sketch or a drawing, or can also use graphics applications such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. It depends on the needs and conditions of work.

3. Communication Skill and Self Management

Great Graphic Designer

Communication (verbal and visual) is a major distinguishing factor between a pro with an amateur designer. Through the work, graphic designers communicate (visually) with the audience. Graphic designers are also required to communicate (verbally) with clients when dealing a project, or when presenting their work.

In addition, a great graphic designer should also be able to manage himself well. Management in this case is about how a graphic designer prepare themselves as professionals who are focused, disciplined, and responsible in every project undertaken.

4. Passion & Improvement

Great Graphic Designer

Well, it is also a vital factor: Passion. Passion makes designers loves their job. Passion is also what makes the designer wants to learn to hone their abilities. Passion makes us continue to wonder until the end (consciously or not) we are led to improvement in order to become a great graphic designer every day.

5. Positive Attitude

Great Graphic Designer

It is up to you to use the God's law, natural law, or the law of the jungle though, but someone with a good attitude will reap good results anyway. Attitude could mean behavior, perspectives, ideals, and social interaction. To build a positive attitude can begin by doing simple things such as: honest, open, understanding the differences, and so on. And last, attitude save the world!

Yeah, that's it! As mentioned above, it was just a personal view of mine. : D So you're free if you have an opinion or maybe just want to add.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

Year 1950 was the beginning of the development of graphic design movement in Swiss, which began to show a unique and clear style of graphic design because the emphasis on clarity of information, objective and rational composition and typography in which the dominant element. Because this style has certain advantages, the Swiss Style Graphic Design is used and created by graphic artists at the time, and finally this graphical style is widespread throughout the world.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

The Swiss Style Graphic Design has become a revolution in the world of graphic design and immediately adopted by all the graphic design artist. The 1970s began surrounding the time, Swiss Style Graphic Design style started to really spread throughout the world. One of the unique style that looks at this in the beginning of its appearance are: user's dominant font as a graphic element in a work of graphic design. So the Swiss Style Graphic Design, also known as the International Typographic Style.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

This graphic design style originated from Russia, Germany and the Netherlands during the 1920s and spread to Switzerland after World War II. In Switzerland, Swiss Style Graphic Design 'is growing rapidly and became a revolution in the world of graphic design. Works that use the Swiss Style Graphic Design is seen not only in poster design, but equally in each element, such as a train ticket design, newspaper layout, paper medicine, and others. Swiss Style Graphic Design has a huge impact for the three decades after its appearance even today.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

One of the Swiss Style Graphic Design pioneers is a graphic design artist named Josef Müller-Brockmann, he is a graphic design artist from Switzerland. He is a graphic design artist who popularized the use of grid systems in graphic design. His role in the development of the Swiss Style Graphic Design is very large, one proof of its worth is in the year 1958 - 1965 that he founded and also being a co-editor of the journal in three languages : Neue Graph (New Graphic Design) who spread the principles of Swiss design internationally.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

The use of a mathematical grid to create a structure that is organized and intact, asymmetrical layout, prioritize the use of photography rather than illustrations, sans serif font, especially Helvetica and Akzidenz Grotesk is characteristic of the Swiss Style Graphic Design. As the influence of modern architecture and industrial design who fight for the principle of "form follows function", Swiss Style Graphic Design more emphasis on the minimal use of visual elements such as typography and content layout, rather than texture and illustrations.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

Swiss Style Graphic Design managed to create simple but effective work, because basically people do prefer simple yet interesting shapes, than the complex. Adheres to the principle of Swiss Style Graphic Design, graphic design artists can experiment with creating abstract geometric patterns, unusual color combinations, text manipulation, and abstract visual interest to convey a clear goal, the addition of unnecessary elements without exploring potential of these elements is considered as a vain thing. That's why Swiss design further highlight the elements of typography as a more efficient communication.

Swiss Style Graphic Design

Many graphic designers are stuck on the idea that the more complicated design produced the more powerful and admired their work. That is an idea that is actually not appropriate because a true graphic designer is required to put themselves in the position of the audience. Starting from a minimal visual elements, Swiss design invites us to better understand, explore, and reflect on the meaning of a simplicity, not only in design but in a more universal meaning.

The Fundamentals Of Graphic Design :Book Summary

The Fundamentals Of Graphic Design
I had just read the book "The Fundamentals Of Graphic Design" which was a great introduction to a career path I had thought I knew about. It seems to be more about graphic design than actually teaching you how to do it.

"The Fundamentals Of Graphic Design" covers the different roles and businesses in the design industry. The following is a summary of the book "The Fundamentals of Graphic Design".

Thus, a graphic designer occupies an important role in the process by liaising with clients and other professionals such as printers, typographers, photographers and finishing houses.

View graphic design as part of the printing process to see graphic design as a craft. Some elements of design work, such as the addition or subtraction of space between letters to make a good and interesting text set, can be regarded as a craft designer type in a manner similar to a carpenter working on a piece of wood or adjust the pressure of the bed to make the right impression on the type of stock .

A raster image is one that consists of pixels in a grid, where each pixel contains the color information for image reproduction. Raster has a fixed resolution, which means that results in a decrease in the quality of the image magnification. On the other hand, scalable vector image contains many objects that are defined by mathematical formulas, or path, rather than pixels. Therefore this type of vector is a scalable and resolution-independent. They can be enlarged and will be clearly infinite. Vectors are used to create logos because they have no background color, which means they can be placed on top of other artwork.

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life
Contribution of Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life - investigated the use of color as the essence of the object to interact with the world. Color is also used as a metaphor and symbolism because of its philosophical value. Understanding the meaning of the colors will strengthen its use in design work.

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

Color is one element that can not stand alone. Appearance of a color is always influenced and determined by the other colors around it. Color is also the first physical appearance to our eyes that distinguish something with something else, either inanimate objects or living things. We can see the color because of the interaction, or because there is interplay between the colors themselves. Blue color with the same lighting levels will look different appearance when placed on a different background or brought closer by a different color.

Each color will create a different impression. By understanding the various things about the color, it will be easier for you to get a proper view of the full color itself, as caused by the color shades are very diverse, and the impression generated is also very diverse. From a wide range of colors available, as the most basic colors are red, blue, and yellow. Of the three colors can be converted into thousands of colors by mixing in certain comparisons in accordance with the desired colors.

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

As a result of mixing these colors will cause a reaction in the direction toward the dark and light in our eyes. The colors are mixed with blue will produce a dark color. While the colors are mixed with yellow and red will produce a lighter color. Such as having a yellow base color and yellow cadmium yellow lemon. Both are impressively different impression. Lemon color will seem soft, whereas cadmium seemed harder. So also in blue. There are several types of blue such as cobalt blue, ultra blue, marine blue, Prussian blue, cyan blue, etc.

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

Blue color when mixed with green color with a certain ratio would give the impression of cool. Cooler impression can be obtained by mixing blue with a slight purple color as in Prussian blue. Green color which contain a mixture of yellow will impress warmer than blue. Purple when mixed with the red will impress warm. Heat and light impression gained from mixing red and yellow. When red is mixed with blue or purple would be cool. When the yellow mixed with green or blue would seem cool. When the colors are mixed with white will obtain pastel colors that give the impression of comfortable, lightweight, soft and cool. When they are mixed with gray, it will cause distress and veiled impression.

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

Dark colors and bright colors will create a different impression. Dark color to your eyes will be analyzed by the brain, and produces the impression of cold. So in contrast with the bright colors will feel warm and hot. As we learned in physics where the red wavelengths are longer than the purple wave. That means a red color which is bright and hot, can more quickly caught the eye, rather than the color purple which seemed dark and cold. The colors which are categorized as hot colors are: yellow-green, yellow, orange yellow, orange, reddish orange and red. The colors which are categorized as cool colors are green, turquoise, blue, purple and violet blue.

COLOR AND MATERIAL

Interior

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

In layout and interior, color and materials affect each other. Although each type of material already has its own character, but it also still needs finishing touches. The final touch is the coloring. For example, the color gives the impression of the clothes, so that the material looks striking, and its shape is more clearly visible. Sometimes the color can also obscure the character of the material.

The use of wood-based material which is given a touch of color will disguise the wood fibers. The use of color can also preserve the material, such as the use of color on ferrous materials that can prevent iron from rusting. The resulting effect of a color is to determine the look of a room and decorate furniture. Proper use of color will accentuate the shape and cover the deficiencies.

COLORS AS SYMBOLS

Black is for grief

Colors in Visual Communication & Everyday Life

There are certain colors that can represent our feelings. Such as grief, it's unethical if we wear clothes that are patterned or brightly colored. Because the bright color is a bright representative of the feelings, or excited. To represent it we usually wear black, because black is figured as death or deterioration. Death is not always represented by black. Death is a spiritual path leading to the higher degree, ie immortality.

Then the death can also be symbolized by the color white. Since white is a symbol of eternity, peace, happiness and purity. According to some tribal belief, black and white are two colors that have the highest degree. Of the colors of life begins, then proceed. White means pure, peaceful, clean, and black means strength and determination.

Grief is the opposite of happiness. People are always shrouded in a sense of happiness is when their days are filled with feelings of love. Love of neighbor and in the surrounding environment. Ordinary sense of love is symbolized by the color pink, the more we look at the celebration of Valentine's Day, everything was pink. Starting from the windows of shops, flower sellers, and sellers Valentine trinkets, knick-knacks, especially the youth needed to express her love to someone.
