Graphic Design Principles

Graphic Design Principles
In their work, graphic designers should consider the various principles in order to achieve a good outcome. The principles described below is not a dead value, it also doesn't mean that most good design is like what is contained in these principles. Instead these will be very useful to you as a reference in making graphic works.

Graphic Design Principles

Simplicity

Graphic Design Principles

Many of the graphic design experts suggest this principle in the design work. It is quite logical for the benefit and convenience of the reader in understanding the content of the message that we want to convey. For example in the use of letters to the news. Headline, subtitles and body text should not use this type of ornamental and complicated fonts, such as blackletter that will only be difficult to read.

Balance

Graphic Design Principles

Balance is a state or similarity between the forces facing each other and create a visually balanced impression. There are 2 principle of balance: the balance of formal (symmetrical) and informal balance.

Formal balance can provide a perfect impression, official, strong, confident and prestigious. Formal balance also touched on consistency in the use of various design elements. Such as the color of the logo of a business card will be full color (F / C).
While useful informal balance which produces a visual impression of a dynamic, free, loose, pop, leaving a rigid attitude, and posmodernis.

Some time ago, I've written an article about balance in graphic design, in the article I classify the principle of balance in more depth, you can read it here: "Balance in Graphic Design".

Unity

Graphic Design Principles

Unity is the cohesion, consistency, singleness or wholeness, which is the main content of the composition. For example: illustration, given raster lines and text that give the impression of unity on which the message meant.

The emphasis (accent)

Graphic Design Principles

The emphasis is intended to attract the attention of readers, so they want to see and read the section which referred to the design.

Rhythm (repetition)

Graphic Design Principles

The rhythm is a repetition of the supporting elements of the artwork. That is the difference between two beings who are located in space, it is similar to the time interval between two successive tones of the same music. Graphic design concerned the interval of space, or void (the distance between objects). For example, the distance between columns. The distance between the text with the edges of the paper, the distances between the 10 pictures on one page and so forth.
