Design is the Applied Art

Design is the Applied Art
If so, a design similar to the art, the difference lies in the word 'applied'. To qualify as an 'applied', the design must be oriented to the funtion of art that applies to the public, not just a useful art as an expression of its maker. Designs must adhere to objectivity, free from the influence of subjectivity. The design is based on engineering issues rather than on the desires and needs of the creators. Thus, the design emphasis is not on the work itself, and not also on the side of the maker, but rather on the function of the work it self. In the end we can enjoy the artwork, and enjoy the design of its function.

Subjectivity-free

In many instances, designers can act as a public target (audience or consumers), from a design program that they do. Here the designer can take a dual role: as a maker as well as a public target. Good value subjectivity can appear when the designer takes the role as the public. Humanitarian values such as conscience, aspiration and creativity-can emerge and become the input to make the objective of the design process. Human values can be contributive to the quality of design at the time the designer is actively involved in the dynamics of the public, attention to social issues, culture, education and other sectors. The value of this humanity can be a source of design innovation, so that design solutions are not only derived from the market that actually tastes dulls creativity.

Invention Problem

The point of design process is the Invention problems that must begin the process of forming the wealth of understanding of the problem. This is a contradiction since there are many who believe that the core design is about the form of a solution, so that often they feel they must immediately make a sketch and realize the visualization because they had had enough knowledge of the problem. These conditions bring the designer into the sphere of art because all they do is immediately jump into the process of making the expression of the problem, without any further questioning about the identity problem. For those who are more concerned with the expression of a visual problem is more appropriately referred to as an artist than a designer.

Enjoy the Function

when enjoying an artwork, often unconsciously we ignore the appearance of the work itself but more motivated by their utility. As Paul Rand said: "Graphic Design is the Language." So, the design is not the content of the message, It is the language conveys the message; to note that the quality of language also greatly affect the success of the delivery of messages. While if we see it from the point of communication, it puts the work of art as a core message and the artist as the source of the message.
